How to Use

Dates are computed from the official rules, not a lookup table: fixed dates like Christmas, weekday rules like the fourth Thursday in November, and Easter-based feasts.

Easter is calculated with the Anonymous Gregorian computus, so Good Friday, Easter Monday, Ascension and Whit Sunday are all exact for any year from 1583 onwards.

These are the actual holiday dates. When one falls on a weekend some countries observe it on a nearby weekday; that observed day is not shown here.

Holidays set by lunar calendars — Eid, Diwali, Holi, Chinese New Year — are not listed, because they cannot be derived from a Gregorian rule.

FAQs

How is the date of Easter calculated?

Easter Sunday is computed with the Anonymous Gregorian computus (the Meeus/Jones/Butcher algorithm), the standard method for the Western church. Easter is the first Sunday after the first ecclesiastical full moon on or after 21 March, so it always falls between 22 March and 25 April. Good Friday is two days earlier, Easter Monday one day later, Ascension 39 days later and Whit Sunday 49 days later.

When is Thanksgiving this year?

US Thanksgiving is always the fourth Thursday of November, so it moves between 22 and 28 November. Select Thanksgiving and any year to get the exact date — for example it falls on 26 November in 2026. Black Friday is the day immediately after, which is not always the fourth Friday of November.

Why does Memorial Day change date every year?

Memorial Day is defined as the last Monday of May, not a fixed date, so it lands anywhere from 25 to 31 May. That 'last' rule matters: some Mays contain five Mondays and some only four, so the last Monday is not always the fourth one. This calculator applies the last-occurrence rule correctly.

Which countries are supported?

The United States, the United Kingdom and India in this version. Each country has its own list, including US federal holidays and popular observances, UK bank holidays such as the Early May, Spring and Summer bank holidays, and India's gazetted Gregorian holidays like Republic Day, Independence Day and Gandhi Jayanti.

Are observed dates shown when a holiday falls on a weekend?

No — the calculator gives the actual holiday date. Several countries shift the day off to the nearest weekday when a holiday lands on a Saturday or Sunday, and those observed dates vary by employer and jurisdiction, so they are deliberately not shown here.

Why aren't Diwali, Eid or Chinese New Year listed?

Those holidays follow lunar or luni-solar calendars, so their Gregorian date cannot be derived from a rule the way Christmas or Thanksgiving can. Including them would mean shipping a hand-maintained lookup table that quietly goes stale, so they are omitted rather than approximated.
