Cómo funciona
- 1
Measure the length and width of the driveway in feet.
- 2
Decide on the thickness of the concrete slab in inches.
- 3
Calculate the volume in cubic yards: (length × width × thickness in feet) ÷ 27.
- 4
Multiply the volume by the price per cubic yard to get the total cost.
((length_ft * width_ft * (thickness_in / 12)) / 27) * price_per_yardPreguntas frecuentes
How much concrete do I need for a standard driveway?
A typical 2-car driveway is about 20 ft by 20 ft with 4 inches of thickness, which requires roughly 4.94 cubic yards of concrete.
Should I order extra concrete?
It's common to order 5-10% extra to account for spillage, uneven subgrade, or changes in thickness. Add a buffer to your volume estimate.
What affects the cost of concrete?
Price varies by region, concrete strength (PSI), additives, and delivery fees. This calculator uses your input price per cubic yard, which you can adjust.

Cómo funciona
Estimates the volume of concrete needed for a driveway slab and the total cost based on dimensions and price per cubic yard.
- Measure the length and width of the driveway in feet.
- Decide on the thickness of the concrete slab in inches.
- Calculate the volume in cubic yards: (length × width × thickness in feet) ÷ 27.
- Multiply the volume by the price per cubic yard to get the total cost.
Fórmulas
Las matemáticas detrás de esta calculadora, escritas para que puedas verificar el resultado.
Volume of Concrete
Concrete is sold by the cubic yard. Convert the slab dimensions to feet, multiply to get cubic feet, then divide by 27 (since 1 yard = 3 feet).
Example:
Input: Length = 30 ft, Width = 10 ft, Thickness = 4 in (0.333 ft)
Calculation: 30 × 10 × 0.333 = 100 ft³; 100 ÷ 27 = 3.70 yd³
Result: ≈ 3.70 yd³
Total Cost
Multiply the concrete volume by the unit price to get the material cost. This does not include labor, reinforcement, or finishing.
Example:
Input: Volume = 3.70 yd³, Price = $150/yd³
Calculation: 3.70 × 150 = 555
Result: ≈ $555
Casos de uso reales
Dónde aparece este cálculo en la vida cotidiana.
Budgeting a new driveway
Get a quick estimate of concrete material costs before contacting contractors.
Example: A 30×10 ft driveway at 4 inches thick with $150/yd³ concrete costs about $555.
Comparing thickness options
See how increasing thickness affects volume and cost, helping you decide between 4, 5, or 6 inches.
Example: Going from 4 to 6 inches increases volume by 50%.
Planning for a larger project
Scale the estimate for longer or wider driveways, such as a circular or extended driveway.
Example: A 40×12 ft driveway at 6 inches thick needs about 8.89 yd³.
Consejos y errores comunes
Tips
- Always measure the actual driveway area, including any curves or extra sections.
- Add 5-10% extra concrete to your order to avoid running short.
- Check local prices for ready-mix concrete; they vary by region and strength.
- Consider the cost of reinforcement (rebar or wire mesh) separately.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Forgetting to convert thickness from inches to feet before calculating volume.
- Using square footage instead of cubic volume when ordering concrete.
- Not accounting for waste or spillage, leading to a short pour.
Supuestos y limitaciones
- Use the stated inputs and units.
- Results are estimates for planning and education.
- Check measurements and source data before making an important decision.
